| Kevin Scanlan - President / CEO | |
Kevin Scanlan was appointed president and chief executive officer of the Metropolitan Chicago Healthcare Council (MCHC) on July 1, 2006, after 18 years of executive service at the Council. Nationally recognized for his innovative management style during his career, Scanlan was involved in the development of many of MCHC’s most successful hospital and community programs. These programs include the Illinois Poison Center, which provides 24/7 hotline coverage throughout the state, group purchasing and supply chain management, employee benefits and human resources programs. Scanlan’s initiatives have saved millions of dollars annually for the 140 member organizations of MCHC.
During his career at MCHC, Scanlan served as director and vice president of human resources membership programs, and as executive vice president and chief operating officer overseeing all MCHC programming. He was instrumental in pioneering the fee-for-service approach to association services, which has significantly reduced the Council’s reliance on dues to fund programs and services. This customized, market-driven approach to community service has become a model for membership organizations of all types nationwide.
Prior to joining MCHC, Scanlan served as a human resources executive at Evangelical Health System and Chicago Osteopathic Health System and as a teacher in the Chicago Public Schools. These experiences helped shape Scanlan’s commitment to education and the development of human potential reflected in the broad programming he has introduced at MCHC.
Scanlan believes the better he and MCHC’s staff know member organizations and their communities, the better they can serve their needs. He and senior MCHC staff regularly visit member facilities and actively participate in grass-roots community organizations.
He received a master’s in management from the National College of Education and a bachelor’s degree in education from Chicago State University. He is also a member of the adjunct faculty at National-Louis University and Governors State University.
Additionally, Scanlan represents the health care community on several local, regional and national committees that focus on a variety of health care issues, including past president of the Conference of Metropolitan Hospital Associations, the Regional Policy Board of the American Hospital Association (AHA), chair of the Healthcare Worker Background Check Act Advisory Committee, the AHA Wage Index Task Force and the Hospital Report Card Act Advisory Committee. He is also a member of the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce. | |
