The Video Interpreter is a cost effective, technology based interpreter network that ensures access to interpreter services throughout health care facilities in less than one minute by video or telephone. Using call center technology, Video Interpreter allows members to access their own qualified interpreters as well as Interpreters of other network participants, on demand, at a cost far lower than that of commercial services.
The Joint Commission and the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) Office for Civil Rights have worked together to support language access in health care organizations with this video, Improving Patient-Provider Communication: Joint Commission Standards and Federal Laws.
Our sister system, the Health Care Interpreter Network (HCIN), at work in California. They were the first adoptor of this technology, which lead to our Video Interpreter for our membership hospitals.
