Advocating member positions before government, business, the public and others;
Enhancing the positive image of the membership;
Developing and providing cost-effective programs that add value to the operations and management of our members and customers;
Researching, analyzing, interpreting, forecasting and effectively communicating pertinent information; and
Providing educational forums to enhance management, clinical and administrative skills.
Vision High quality, accessible healthcare for all communities.
Our Organization MCHC is organized into specialized units that allow the Council to respond to changes in the health care environment. MCHC is a tax-exempt trade association and the parent organization of several entities.
Department and Service Overview The Business Development Team builds or partners with best-of-breed solutions for our members, combining revenue cycle tools, cost containment solutions, and human capital programs. We are, in effect, a trusted voice with a proven track record that is clearing some of the “noise” for our members who are looking to improve their business performance.
Chicago Hospital Risk Pooling Program (CHRPP) was established as an Illinois Trust in 1978 to offer MCHC members an alternative to commercial and self-insured professional and comprehensive general liability (medical malpractice) coverage.
In addition to helping hospitals reduce their premium costs, CHRPP assists members in claims and risk management initiatives. The Standard Elements of Risk Management Program uses bonuses and surcharges to encourage members to comply with clinical requirements and recommendations that can reduce their malpractice risks.
The Clinical Services department provides information and support hospitals need to operate effectively and keep up with evolving patient care, administrative, accreditation and regulatory standards. Clinical Services helps hospitals address clinical, emergency preparedness and EMS, patient safety, ethics, environment of care, infection control and perioperative issues.
The Human Capital Services (HCS) department has helped members meet the challenges of hiring and retaining qualified health care professionals. HCS provides valuable assistance in recruiting employees, checking backgrounds and qualifications, establishing competitive compensation packages, and containing employee benefit costs.
The Business Performance Programs & Solutions (BPPS) department provides a variety of financial information and consultation services that help hospitals improve financial performance. Throughout the year, the department collects, analyzes and distributes health care finance and utilization reports that are essential for guiding financial decisions in a rigid reimbursement environment.
Patient Financial Services (PFS) helps members reduce accounts receivable and improve overall financial performance by identifying and resolving claims payment problems and streamlining billing operations.
The Group Purchasing Services (GPS) department promotes volume discount contracts with its suppliers, providing favorable pricing, terms and conditions to both acute and alternate health care facilities. Discounted contract pricing covers medical, surgical, office and housekeeping supplies; X-ray film and other disposables; food, lab and medical equipment; and pharmaceutical products.
Government Relations (GR) staff raises the Council’s visibility at the federal and local levels by meeting with legislators, government officials and public policy makers to identify issues that impact members and the communities they serve, and by advocating positive public policy changes.
The Illinois Poison Center (IPC) offers treatment advice and information about all types of poisoning hazards, including household products, overdoses, alcohol and drug misuse, gaseous fumes, insect or animal bites and hazardous materials. IPC poison specialists are able to address three out of four calls on-site without referring callers to a medical provider. This saves more than $60 million in unnecessary hospital visits and medical costs annually.
The Public Relations (PR) department supports member organizations through communication, public relations activities and crisis counsel. MCHC newsletters and educational programs keep members informed about the latest health care issues in the Chicago region, as well as the latest services MCHC offers. Public Relations also produces MCHC’s Membership Directory and Annual Report and coordinates MCHC’s Annual Luncheon each spring.
The Conference Center (CC) is conveniently located in MCHC’s West Loop office. The 6,000 square-foot Conference Center is an ideal location for member meetings, special events or seminars. It offers all of the accommodations needed for a successful event, including flexible space configurations and convenient hours. The facility’s state-of-the-art technology allows meeting participants to communicate through integrated video, voice, data and Web capabilities. The center also offers catering service for all events. |
